The hotspot-free module is shading-resistant and avoids so-called hotspots of individual cells in the string. Due to the bypass diodes used between all cells of the module, the current in the string can continue to flow even when shaded. Fraunhofer CSP certified that the product has only a three percent power loss when a cell is shaded compared to 30 percent that is lost in a standard module. The trick: The string current takes its way over the bypass diode when shaded. The remaining 12 cells in the cell string continue to produce electricity.
